In order to visit my friends in Austria, I took the train from Besançon to Graz and back again. This involves a train to Dijon and then to Zurich, totalling about 3 hours. Then from Zurich to Graz involves a lovely but slower train ride winding along valleys between hills and mountains which takes 9 and a half hours. Lovely scenery there and back, but rather a lot of it! Hard to get good pictures out train windows. Here are a few.
Zurich’s lake.
One of many village May poles in Austria.
Zell am See, Austria.
Little wooden huts are scattered throughout Austrian meadows. This one is a bit larger than usual.
I saw quite a few people biking along such small valley roads.
Near Graz.
A lovely feature of the train - the dining car. Not crowded and not expensive. My lunch of Austrian noodles (thicker than ours) and very peppery cabbage.
